Braces For Adults

Braces and aligners improve confidence and encourage smiles

Adult orthodontics is the fastest growing segment of the industry, making it quite common for adults to get braces, Invisalign® or another type of aligner.

Adults have similar reasons to their younger counterparts as to why they may want their teeth aligned. From beautifying smiles or boosting self-esteem, to correcting issues or improving overall health, more adults than ever are visiting orthodontists.

Adults face tooth and jaw alignment issues that are similar to those of children or teens. However, adults may not realize they’re at risk for other problems related to these issues. Crowding or other types of misaligned teeth can make cleaning difficult. In addition, uneven wear of tooth enamel, tooth decay, and even gum/bone loss can also be avoided through corrective treatment with braces as an adult.

Types of treatment for adults

There are several different options for adult orthodontics, and though they all straighten your teeth, each one has its own characteristics.

  • You can make a personal statement with traditional braces that come with bands in a variety of colors.
  • Ceramic braces, on the other hand, can be almost invisible. They’re designed just like metal braces, but clear brackets blend with the color of your teeth and are hardly noticeable.
  • Depending on the amount of alignment that needs to be done, some people will be able to have their bites corrected with Invisalign. These custom-made, clear plastic aligners fit over your existing teeth and slowly and gently shift your teeth into their proper places. There are no food restrictions with Invisalign, and you can brush and floss as usual.
