There was a little more activity than usual at Sawyer Creek Orthodontics on Saturday morning. Our office was ecstatic to have the opportunity to be a challenge stop for the Amazing Oshkosh race, organized by the Oshkosh Mid-Morning Kiwanis Club.
What is Amazing Oshkosh?
Amazing Oshkosh is a parody of the network television show, Amazing Race. Working as a team, groups of four compete in various physical, mental and sometimes downright silly challenges that are sponsored by local businesses. Each stop is timed and the team that completes all of the challenges in the least amount of time is declared the winner, earning them the top prize of $1,000. Participants also vie for prizes for Team Spirit and Best Costume.
Challenges can include everything from learning a dance routine to answering trivia questions or building a sundae blindfolded.
At Sawyer Creek Orthodontics, Amazing Oshkosh contestants had to participate in two challenges before moving on to their next stop.
We move teeth in our office, so we it was only appropriate for our stop to include the movement of a few things.
The first challenge consisted of two team members having to move water; using only a sponge. Teams had to transfer water from one bucket to another until they reached a specific marker on the bucket.
At the same time, the other two team members participated in the task of “Hygiene Balance”, a recreation of the Minute-to-Win-It game. In this game, a q-tip had to be moved from point A to point B using a toothbrush which participants held with no help from their hands, only their mouths. Once both tasks were complete, the team had to reach a stop sign posted in our office in order for us to stop the timer.
Our fastest team completed the challenges in just 52 seconds!
